About the publication

Where the trade learns the trade.

A vendor-neutral publication for low-voltage installers, cabling apprentices, career changers, and the homeowners who'd rather do it themselves.

I.

What CablingIQ is

CablingIQ is a free, vendor-neutral education platform covering structured cabling, fiber optics, PoE, network testing, and the broader low-voltage trade. We publish step-by-step installation guides, certification study paths, real-world tool reviews, and career resources — all written by working installers and contributing trade journalists.

We don't sell tools and we don't run sponsored placements. Independence is the whole point of the publication.

II.

Why we built it

The cabling trade has a knowledge gap nobody bothered to fill properly. Homeowners get YouTube videos of varying quality. DIYers get affiliate-blog listicles dressed up as reviews. Career-curious readers get warmed-over Indeed data and generic “trade school” explainers.

We're filling all of it under one brand, in a single editorial voice, with the depth the trade deserves.

III.

How we work

  • Vendor-neutral. We don't sell tools — we test them. Brands get covered on merit, not on payment.
  • Written by working installers. Our contributors are field techs and freelance trade journalists, not marketing copywriters.
  • Free forever. No paywall, no “premium tier,” no email-gated PDFs.
  • Reader-supported. No sponsored placements, no pay-to-play product reviews.
  • Issue cadence. One feature article every two weeks, plus shorter reference and how-to drops in between.

The Beckmere Network

CablingIQ is one of five brands published under Beckmere — a Nashville-based company building specialty publications and shops in connectivity infrastructure.

Sister sites: WiringInstallers (find a pro), CrimpShop (connectors and crimping tools), ShopFiberOptic (fiber tools and equipment), and CableTestShop (test & measurement). The shops fund the editorial. Editorial does not cover its own shops with kid gloves.

We built CablingIQ because the trade deserves a publication that treats it seriously. The plan is simple: cover the work the way a working installer would explain it to an apprentice. Vendor-neutral, no fluff, no payola, and free for as long as we can keep it running.
